emeralddawnn.elance.com

A Chance To Live: What Does “The New Way To Work” Mean To Me

I am a journalist; I graduated with my bachelor’s degree in Dec. 2003 from Arkansas State University and had made plans that included finding my way to the New York Times. Alas, this dream would be thwarted by unforeseen changes in my life that included getting remarried and having a new baby.

I moved to Mississippi with a new job at a local paper but shortly after arriving, we discovered I was pregnant with my now three-year-old son. Times were tough because I had to quit working for the sake of my health and the baby’s and for nearly a year and half… it was just my husband working. One day I decided I wanted to find a way to work freelance using my journalism degree. I knew there had to be a way.

I found it in the form of GetAFreelancer in January 2008; shortly thereafter I discovered Elance. I obtained my first job on Elance in June ’08 with a client to rewrite some articles. I was still doing my freelancing through GAF (for the most part) but in January 2009, I once again gave Elance a try and thanks to two buyers, I was able to work “full-time” through the site and have been very busy ever since. I write for many different clients on a variety of subjects, allowing me to learn about subjects I may never have thought about before.

What does “The New Way To Work” mean to me? Thanks to the freelancing, I have been able to supplement my husband’s income with the money I have made. What money I have made enabled us to finally have a savings account. It enabled us to bring food to the table and pay for the little extras the household needed or wanted. It also allowed me to stay at home with my youngest boy and be there for when my oldest is home from junior high.

Yet, the best thing of all with “The New Way To Work” is that it allowed me the money I needed to go to the doctor. You see, I have a thyroid condition that requires constant medication and for that year without working, I had to go without it. I couldn’t afford to see the doctor and my thyroid condition was worsening. Finally, I obtained enough money to pay the $75 doctor’s fee and pay for the medication as well. Elance and freelancing has given me a new lease on life and for that, I am eternally grateful. So what does “The New Way To Work” mean to me? It means I can live a longer life with my family by my side.

Emeralddawnn/Freelance Writer Mom
Emeralddawnn@gmail.com

When I picked David up from school yesterday, he informed me that his Science notebook had been stolen from his desk. I asked him if he made sure he just didnt leave it somewhere and he said NO... it was while they were in PE that it had been taken. It was 100 percent if maybe the teacher took up the books while they were gone and just grabbed his notebook as well... but he's pretty certain... she would have taken it out had that been the case. Well, if indeed it was taken by another student, thats pretty shitty on the part of the student as well as the school for not taking the appropriate measures to make sure like this doesnt happen. David is pretty fucking upset because he has a test tomorrow and other than read everything over again, he has no way to study. AND with a new teacher coming in, which is possible she could use any of the material from last time for a test in the future, its gonna be shitty on the school's part again for not taking them measures.
I talked with the principal yesterday who informed me that the boy assured him that when he took David's money, that it indeed flew out the window *yeah right* but that he is going to bring the money back... I told him I said high time to talk with the parents but he said he cant even get ahold of them. Now, time has been passing on and I dont feel anyone is doing a good enough job in either situation.
I feel like because of what color David is.. and yes, I will use race because Damn it if Kelli had been there, this matter would already be over or this wouldnt have happened. Either way... im calling the superintendent of the school.. who just happens to be white! I dont feel results are being made, not effortly anyways... Yes, the principal did show up that day at the bus stop after what happened! and he SAID the kids that picked on my son were dealt with but I feel that this school has neglected to manage its students and their belongings appropriately and I feel I need to take higher action.
Gary actually agrees with me on this.. He said this has got to stop!

List five songs that you currently love. It doesn't matter what genre they are from, whether they have words, or even if they're any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying right now. Post these instructions, the artists, and the songs in your blog.

1. Scooter - No Fate - Is life really just a series of random shit or is it all fated?

2. Green Day - Holiday - Hell yes! These guys say what I wish common people such as REPUBLICANS (cough cough DAD!) would wake up and realize! Oh they did! WE have a Democratic congress! HEHE!

3. Groove Coverage - The End (Special D Remix)- If the life of someone I know ended, this song says what I feel.

4. Mike Oldfield - Moonlight Shadow (from the Vampire Hunter D soundtrack) - When I first heard this song, my mind thought of my first love James. Pretty much it still does.... especially now that he is in Iraq.

5. Scooter - Ramp - If you ever get the chance to see this video, it is a must see for die hard techno fiends. *the man is HOT!* Plus the ending is spectacular. Some of it sounds like the chipmunks but it offsets the song and works together very well! It was a must-have for my collection.

Now that doesnt mean take offense to what I just said.. I just see this as another way the government has attempted or in this case.. won.. in impeaching our freedoms and conforming to the Christian values that many of us don't adhere to. This Missouri town needs to wake up to what it is shuffeling.. and this country has pretty much gone to shit!!!!

Mo. Town Denies Unmarried Couple Permit

BLACK JACK, Mo. - The city council has rejected a measure allowing unmarried couples with multiple children to live together, and the mayor said those who fall into that category could soon face eviction.

Olivia Shelltrack and Fondrey Loving were denied an occupancy permit after moving into a home in this St. Louis suburb because they have three children and are not married.

The town's planning and zoning commission proposed a change in the law, but the measure was rejected Tuesday by the city council in a 5-3 vote.

"I'm just shocked," Shelltrack said. "I really thought this would all be over, and we could go on with our lives."

The current ordinance prohibits more than three people from living together unless they are related by "blood, marriage or adoption." The defeated measure would have changed the definition of a family to include unmarried couples with two or more children.

Mayor Norman McCourt declined to be interviewed but said in a statement that those who do not meet the town's definition of family could soon face eviction.

Black Jack's special counsel, Sheldon Stock, declined to say whether the city will seek to remove Loving and Shelltrack from their home.

When he arrives, she seductively signals
that he should bring his face closer to hers. When he does, she begins to
caress his beard.
"Are you the manager?" she asks, softly stroking his face with both hands.
"Actually, no," the man replies."Can you get him for me? I need to speak
to him," she says, running her hands beyond his beard and into his hair.
"I'm afraid I can't," breathes the bartender. "Is there anything I can do?"
"Yes, there is. I need you to give him a message," she continues, running
her forefinger across the bartender's lips and slyly popping a couple of
her fingers into his mouth and allowing him to suck them gently.
"What should I tell him?" the bartender finally manages to say.
"Tell him," she whispers, "there is no toilet paper, hand soap, or paper
towels in the ladies room."

My parents lost everything including their vehicles. My brother, same thing, and the same with my grandmother. They are trapped with no place to go and no way to get there even still. I wish they had left but I know why they didnt. My mother is going to lose it here soon and I am not there for her. My mother had some very very expensive antique oriental furniture. Things she has had for years before I was born or around then. Its just gone. Dad said their car is completly flooded and may never work again. I just dont know what to do and although I cant do anything, I am just completely stunned myself. I know this just sounds wrong of me but all our pictures are ruined. I asked for one so long ago but now, it may not be around. I am just so glad my family is okay. I just wish I was there to help them through this... I want my family to be okay. I was so worried today I couldnt work.

You are very optimistic and you always see the bright side of things. Some good advice: try not to be too much of a dreamer, if not you will have many conflicts with life.

(29-34 points) You are Sponge Bob Square Pants: You are the classic person that everyone loves. You are the best friend that anyone could ever have and never want to lose. You never cause harm to anyone and they would never not understand your feelings. Life is a journey, it's funny and calm for the most part. Stay away! from traitors and jealous people, then you
will be stress free.

(35-42 points) You are Charlie Brown: You are tender, you fall in love quickly but you are also very serious about all relationships. You are a family person. You call your mom every Sunday. You have many friends and may occasionally forget a few Birthdays. Don't let your passion confuse you
with reality.

(43-50 points) You are Dexter: You are smart and definitely a thinker. Every situation is fronted with a plan. You have a brilliant mind. You demonstrate very strong family principles. Maintain a stable routine but never ignore a bad situation when it comes.

Now don't spoil it! A 9mm for "light days" and a .44 Magnum for "heavy days.

2. For rape and assault prevention, a whistle is:

A. All you'll ever need.
B. Next to useless with nothing to back it up.
C. The signal to "Fire!"

3. The movie Thelma & Louise was:

A. An insidious Hollywood plot to stamp out femininity and glorify
mindless
violence by women.
B. A female buddy film that included allegories of empowerment.
C. A training film.

4. What was technically wrong with the scene in Thelma & Louise where
the
two women disarmed a Texas State Police Officer.

A. Real women would never do anything as tacky, tasteless, and
altogether
gauche as pointing guns at a man, let alone taking his icky, disgusting
gun
for their own use.
B. There is no Texas State Police per se, but rather a Department of
Public
Safety that includes a Highway Patrol; they do not authorize the .45
1911
auto for carry except by Texas Rangers; the ammo on the officer's belt
was
revolver cartridges in single loops, not appropriate auto pistol ammo
in
magazines.
C. The dumb broads left a perfectly good shotgun clamped to the
dashboards
of the cruiser.

5. A mouse runs across the kitchen floor. The proper response it to:

A. Climb onto a high stool and scream for a man to help you.
B. Call the exterminator.
C. Link up the belt feed to the M-60.

6. You are discussing the depressing local crime statistics with your
good-hearted neighbor, Ralph, who suggests that you buy a .25 caliber
pistol
for home defense. You reply:

A. "Never! A woman who buys a gun has humiliatingly surrendered to the
evil
ethos of mindless macho sexist brute force!"
B. "An amusing suggestion, Ralph, but don't you think it's a little
light
for the purpose?"
C. "Only to plant in the dead hand of the next little weasel stupid
enough
to give me wimpy advice like that!"

7. What is your reaction to the concept of a bra holster?

A. "Yeech! It would be an obscene juxtaposition of the icon of death
with
the symbol of nurturing!"
B. "Uncomfortable and impractical, designed by males for females."
C. "Not a bad idea, so long as it doesn't get in the way when you reach
for
the MAC-10 sub-machinegun in your shoulder sling."

8. Define "male."

A. The first syllable of "malevolance," which in turn is only one
letter
short of "male violence."
B. An individual of the opposite sex.
C. A quaint anachronism, once useful for protection of females, but
rendered
obsolete by contemporary firepower.

9. Where, in the scheme of things defensive, do such spray products as
Mace
and CapStun belong?

A. Nowhere! If you just show your attacker compassion and
understanding, you
won't need nasty things like that.
B. At the lower-threat levels of the Use of Force Continuum.
C. In the medicine cabinet; real women use mace instead of Feminique.

10. You are cornered in your home by a knife-wielding intruder. He
ignores
your command to halt, and charges you with the knife upraised. How many
shots should you fire?

A. None. It would be better to die than sacrifice moral victory by
using
"his" kind of force.
B. As many shots as are necessary to stop the attack.
C. A minimum of fifty shots. Hey, when is the next time you'll get a
chance
like this to express yourself, and get in touch with your feelings?

Grading the Exam

If 8 or more (80 %) of your answers were "A," it is time to check into
a
Reality Clinic. Perhaps the meek will inherit the earth, but only when
the
rest of us are done with it.

If 8 or more of your answers were "B," welcome to the land of the
well-adjusted adults who manage their own responsibilities with an
appropriate level of power.

If 8 or more of your answers were "C," don't feel too bad. Society may
not
have a place for you, but Hollywood will, as soon as they start casting
for
the lead role in Bride of Rambo.
